Personal information security
I recently bought three books from Alibris.com and I am really pleased with the customer service they provide during the course of the transaction and shipping. The book reached here in Bhopal after 28 days from the date of shopping. The overall service provided by Alibris is quite good and the customer care staffs out there are also very friendly.
But it got a bit confusing when I received a book offer from BalajiBooks by normal airmail. BalajiBooks is based in India and there is no way I might have given out my postal address to them, directly o indirectly. There can be many variations of my postal address. Like, I can write “Room No. 201″ or “Room #201″ or simply “Room 201″. And I often apply a similar kind of variation when I give out my address to online stores in order to tract the parcel when they arrive at my local post office. What makes me worried is that the address printed on the cover of the mail from BalajiBooks is exactly same as the one I supplied to Alibris.com. So, is my personal information compromised? I send a letter to the customer care at Alibris but I got a reply stating that, there can never be any such security problem with their system. Anyway, I wish that’s true and indeed, there were no such problem with their system.
